As a surgeon, I was taught an authoritative style of leadership — after all, when seconds matter it's not time to gather a lot of opinions.

Through Coaching, I learned how collaborating and empowering others can reap big rewards.

Instead of thinking of all the answers myself, I can lead my team through a decision making process. They discover new ideas and ways of solving problems themselves, and they're more invested in the solution.

With this big adjustment in my leadership style, I'm taking on more responsibilities. It's just in time, because the company is experiencing rapid growth and change.

I see how all of the areas in my company are like an intricate web. I can't just yank at the web. There are many other ways I can influence others and make a big impact.

I thought Coaching would be rather dry, even difficult. Just the opposite: it's energizing and fun — this is medicine you want to take.

My Advice: don't start Coaching unless you're ready to go beyond what you already know, move past where you're comfortable, and try something new.
